A Musical Journey Through God's Word

On Saturday afternoon February 25, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. the Catholic Biblical School, Office of Religious Education and the Archbishop O’Brien Library, St. Thomas Seminary of the Archdiocese of Hartford will sponsor a musical performance entitled A Musical Journey through God’s Word created by Ernani Domingos, who was inspired by his studies in the Biblical school. The concert will be held in the Chapel at the Center, with an informal reception following afterwards in the Library.

Vocalist, Mr. Domingos will sing works by classical and contemporary composers set to Biblical verse. Miguel Campinho will provide piano accompaniment.

Mr. Domingos started his study of voice with the project of Federal University of Santa Maria (Brazil) in1995, under the direction of Professor Elocilda Andrade. In 2005, he won a scholarship to study at the University of Cantareira with the Romanian professor Marian Cioromilla and under her direction sang in the Jardim Sao Paulo Theater in Sao Paulo Brazil. In 2006, the professor Moura Castro invited Ernani to continue his studies at the Hartt School of Music with Professor Jerome Pruett. In addition to his performances in Brazil, Ernani has traveled throughout Europe participating in master classes. He has sung locally at various churches and venues in Hartford, Newington, Enfield, Bloomfield, and Avon. He is the choir director at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Hartford and at the Good Shepherd Church in Manchester.

Miguel Campinho, a native of Portugal, began his music studies at the Conservatorio de Musica Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga and graduated in 1996. He completed degrees in piano performance from Escola Superior de Musicae Artes do Espectaculo do Porto. In Portugal, he was a prize winner in several piano competitions. He continued his studies with Professor Luiz de Moura Castro at Hartt School of Music where he holds a Master of Music in piano performance and an Artist diploma. He was included in the roster of the 20/20 Honors Chamber Music Program and won competitions at the School. He is currently a doctor of Musical Arts student at the Hartt School and has played masterclasses with many renowned pianists and teachers.

He has performed in solo and chamber music appearances in Europe and the United States. He is a recipient of scholarships and awards from various institutions and currently works as a vocal accompanist at the Hartt School. He is a member of the Liszt Society.

Classical guitarist, Neal Fitzpatrick

CONCERT RESCHEDULED.
On Sat., March 17, 2012, the Archbishop O’Brien Library will host classical guitarist, Neal Fitzpatrick at 1 p.m. The works of South American composers Agustin Barrios, Leo Brouwer, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Manuel Ponce, and Francisco Tarrega of Mexico, as well as guitar pieces that were composed by Mr. Fitzpatrick will be performed. Most of this music was composed in the 20th century with the exception of Tarrega whose works spanned the late19th and early 20th century.

Neal Fitzpatrick is a Connecticut native who holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Hartt School of Music, and earned a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music in 1998. He studied extensively with jazz great Sal Salvador and world-renowned classical guitarist Sharon Isbin. He continued his studies at Yale under another master and innovator of the guitar, Benjamin Verdery. While at Yale he served as Mr. Verdery's teaching assistant for one year.

His awards include the annual Applied Music Department Guitar Award for Excellence -- a highly competitive award given at the end of each school year at the Hartt School. He also was a recipient of the Benjamin Jepson Award at Yale -- an award given to a Connecticut native who excelled while in the music program.

Mr. Fitzpatrick is an active soloist and chamber musician. He has performed at diverse venues such as the Connecticut Classical Guitar Society, the Yale Center for British Art, Sprague Hall, the Aspen Music Festival, the Neighborhood Music School, the Yale Guitar Extravaganza, the New York City Guitar Festival, and at   Woolsey Hall with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Neal is widely active in public library concert programs throughout the tri-state area. He was also a member of the New Haven-based Audubon Ensemble contemporary classical music group where he premiered a work for solo classical guitar by composer S. Beth May.

Mr. Fitzpatrick maintains a thriving private teaching studio where he teaches both classical and jazz guitar. He also   teaches at the Community Music School in Centerbrook, CT where he is chairman of the guitar department. He has taught at the Trinity College Lessons Program and in the New Haven area at The Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven. Also, in New Haven he’s coached the Jazz Ensemble at the Hopkins Schooland has given private lessons in guitar at the Neighborhood Music School where he was on the faculty of the Audubon Summer Arts Program.
